DeDe Bohannon (GA5 Alum) records her 1000th kill at Georgia State!!!

September 29, 2015 - ATLANTA – Surpassing career milestones, seniors Deidra Bohannon and Natalia Nieto were given game balls and recognized before Thursday night’s match against Texas State at the GSU Sports Arena. Bohannon has tallied 1,000 career kills while Nieto has recorded 3,000 career assists.
Bohannon reached 1,000 kills in the last match of the 2014 season, also against Texas State. The outside hitter and respiratory therapy major is the 10th Panthers all-time to earn more than 1,000 kills. Bohannon is one of 30 candidates for this year’s Senior CLASS Award. Nieto tallied 41 assists against DePaul on Sept. 12 of this season, putting her over 3,000 assists for her career. The native of Puerto Rico becomes only the third Panther to reach the mark.
“This is one of the ways they’re leaving their footprint on Georgia State volleyball,” head coach Sally Polhamus said. “This is still young in the season and there’s many more opportunities to build on these benchmarks.”
Despite the excitement, the Panthers were unable to topple Texas State (8-7), who is 3-0 to start off the Sun Belt schedule. Georgia State drops to 4-9 on the year and 0-3 in the conference. All three losses have come to opponents that were picked to finish in the top half of the conference in the preseason poll.
Texas State won 25-20, 25-17 and 25-15. The Bobcats outhit the Panthers and were led by Shelby Vas Matt who finished with a match-high 15 kills. Freshman Shae Chapman had a breakout performance, tallying a team-leading eight kills on .278 hitting. The eight kills top her previous best of seven.
Georgia State has the weekend to prepare for an upcoming road trip to the state of Alabama. The Panthers face Troy at 7 p.m. on Friday and South Alabama at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both times eastern.
