Taylor Spence (18-April) ready to make a big splash at Mercer!!!

MACON, Ga. – Mercer head indoor and beach coach Damian Elder the signing of Abigail Moss and Taylor Spence, who will join Mercer in the 2016-17 season as freshmen. Both Moss and Spence hail from the state of Georgia.

"Having two Georgia natives coming to Mercer Volleyball will not only make our volleyball family stronger, but will continue Mercer University's tradition of educating the best and brightest the state has to offer," said Elder.

Moss will play beach volleyball for the Orange and Black while Spence will become a member of the indoor squad.

Abigail Moss – Kennesaw, Ga.
High School: Harrison High School
Position: Middle Blocker
Notables: Qualified for all three Beach Junior National tournaments in 2015 and placed 30th in the United States Volleyball Association Beach Nationals … Selected to the Volleyball Factory 2014 National Court Team in Lake Placid, N.Y. … Led Harrison to the 6A Georgia Volleyball Final Four in 2015 and the Elite Eight in 2014 and 2013 … Named the No. 8 blocker in Georgia at the 6A level and the No. 2 blocker in the Kennesaw area … Honored with the 2015 Kay Gower Award, a scholarship for excellence on and off the court … Named Harrison's 2015 Female Student Artist Athlete of the Year … Earned Scholar Athlete and Honor Roll status every semester.

"Abigail first and foremost is going to be a great student with a commitment to being a contributing member to the academic push our Beach Volleyball team exhibits every semester. Secondly, she is very fluid on the sand, versatile in that she can do all the skills, passing, setting, and hitting, very well. She comes highly recommended by some very knowledgeable colleagues and I can't wait to have her be on the team."

Position: Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist
Notables: Served as team captain during junior and senior seasons … Led North Gwinnett to a record of 117-28 over three seasons as a starter, including three Top 20 finishes in the 6A Georgia rankings … Paced team in kills and aces in 6A Georgia State Championships in 2014 … Compiled 602 kills, 403 digs and 170 aces throughout high school career … 2014 All-Area selection … Led 2015 AAU team (GA-5) to USA National Qualifiers in 2015 after winning the Region Championship and led the team in kills, aces and serving percentage.

"Taylor is going to add her explosive athleticism and some very skilled ball control to our gym immediately. It was evident in the first few minutes of her campus visit that she would be a great fit for our program and that she wanted to be a great fit. We are all excited to have Taylor and the Spence family be part of the Mercer Volleyball Family!"
